One World Media, an organisation that supports journalists and filmmakers globally to tell stories that inform and connect the world, is inviting mid-career filmmakers and journalists from the Global South, with creative and engaging non-fiction stories about the Global South, to apply for its fellowship.

The fellowship supports journalists working in film, print, audio, photography, or multimedia, who seek to develop their existing career reporting in the Global South, raising awareness and breaking down prejudices with integrity and creativity.

The fellowship is a year-long, remote programme with support of up to £3,000 reporting grant. Fellows are assigned an Executive Producer for their project, and they get to participate in industry workshops and other events; they also network with like-minded Fellowship alumni.

This year, the Fellowship is growing and has new funding partners, more tailored opportunities, and a range of grants available to support different projects. The One World Media Projects page contains information about its special grants and programmes.

The Fellowship is One World Media’s flagship programme that supports and champions global journalism and documentary filmmaking, selecting a cohort of talented fellows every year, who receive mentoring, industry support, and funding to produce original stories from the Global South.

It seeks to champion diverse emerging talent and particularly encourages submissions from underrepresented groups, including but not limited to people of colour, ethnic groups, women, LGBTQ+, or people with disabilities.

One World Media will welcome:

  • Projects in pre-production that tell engaging stories from low- and middle-income countries across the global south.
  • Non-fiction media across all platforms: film, print, audio, photojournalism, and multimedia.
  • Proposals where the majority of the budget is in place or achievable in a short timeframe.
  • Projects that can be delivered within a year: 10 minutes in film, 1500 words in print, 30 minutes in audio/multimedia.
  • Stories that are strong enough to be published or broadcast in established media outlets. The organisation is looking for genuine journalism or documentary and will fund media that could ultimately appear in existing newspapers, magazines, radio, TV channels, professional news websites, and online platforms etc.

Beyond this, One World Media is particularly interested in proposals that:

  • Seek to tell underreported stories in a way that will engage the intended audience.
  • Highlight the voices of people living in the Global South, particularly voices that are not often heard.
  • Have established contacts/contributors who have confirmed their willingness to take part.
  • Have considered safety.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of accountability and fair practice in reporting.
  • Employ ethical filmmaking practices when working with contributors.

To apply for the Fellowship, applicants should register for a new user account on the One World Media Submission portal. Those who have registered previously do not need to create a new account; they should simply log in with the same user details or reset their password.

Applicants need to fill an online form, upload necessary documents, and provide a reference letter. More details are available in the downloadable Submission Information document.

Applicants may submit more than one proposal, but a separate online application is required for each.

The deadline for submission of applications is August 20, 2025. Those who have queries should contact One World Media at contact@oneworldmedia.org.uk.
