Online News Association Accepting Entries for 2022 Online Journalism Awards

The Washington D.C.-based Online News Association (ONA), a nonprofit membership organization for digital journalists, is accepting entries for the 2022 Online Journalism Awards that recognise excellence in digital reporting from online journalists, digital news organisations and students worldwide. The Awards are a comprehensive set of journalism prizes honouring excellence in digital journalism around the world.

Award categories include data journalism, digital visual storytelling, investigative journalism, public service, general excellence and more. This year’s competition features three new categories: 3M Truth in Science Award; Excellence in Social Media Engagement; and Olympics and Paralympics Coverage.

The contest offers six awards totalling US$57,000, courtesy of the support of SmartNews, The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, 3M, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication’s Agora Journalism Center, and McKinsey Publishing.

To be eligible, entries must have been published between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022. Works may be submitted in any language although English translations are strongly recommended.

The entry fee is US$125 for ONA members, US$200 for non-members, US$15 for student members, US$30 for student non-members, and US$50 for ONA members and non-members working in micro-size newsrooms.

Submission of applications closes on June 9, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. EDT (3:59 a.m. UTC).
