Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance Invites Applications  for 2024 ACCER Awards

The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance, a network of organizations based in Kenya with a shared vision to advance a people-centered, rights-based, just and inclusive approach to addressing climate and environmental challenges facing humanity and the planet, is inviting applications for the 2024 African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting (ACCER) awards.

Established in 2013, the awards have attracted hundreds of applications annually from across Africa. The vetting process is thorough and fair, recognizing a significant amount of work regardless of whether an award is ultimately received.

The theme for the award is: “Advancing for accountability for Adaptation finance for enhanced resilience, climate justice, and equity”.

The main objectives of the awards are:

  • • To circulate the African narrative on Climate Change in environmental discourse.
  • • To ensure that journalists and media houses in Africa remain properly motivated to objectively and effectively report on matters of climate change and environmental issues.
  • • To shine a light on best practices being employed in policy and practice in response to climate change.
  • • To enhance proactive media participation in African climate change discourse.
  • • To promote and create awareness about the opportunities existing in green investment in both public and private sectors.

For over a decade, the award scheme has motivated numerous journalists who have sparked a notable transformation in climate journalism across the continent. Their work empowers them to delve into more profound narratives, revealing impactful stories that foster public engagement and drive policy change. The ACCER Awards have been instrumental in elevating discussions at the intersection of environment, climate action, sustainable development, and livelihoods, shedding light on stories of innovation, resilience, and the challenges faced by diverse communities.

The deadline for submission of Entries is August 6, 2024.
