The Philanthropy Circuit, an independent pan-African media and research institution telling the deeper story of African philanthropy,  has announced the launch of its African Philanthropy Media Fellowship (APMF Cohort 1), a six-week virtual programme with the theme: “Beyond Aid: Reporting African-Led Philanthropy.”

The fellowship is designed to equip emerging journalists, content creators, and media practitioners across Africa with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to report accurately and compellingly on African-led philanthropy and development.

The programme aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of Africa’s philanthropy ecosystem while building practical storytelling, data-driven reporting, and ethical journalism skills.

The fellowship will run fully virtually for six weeks, with an application deadline of February 28, 2026, and requires full participation from the selected candidate.

Philanthropy Circuit announced that candidates will benefit from structured virtual trainings, mentorship from experienced media and philanthropy practitioners, editorial guidance and feedback, opportunities to publish with Philanthropy Circuit and partner platforms, and exposure to African philanthropy actors, models, and narratives.

Eligible applicants must be early-career journalists, content creators, or media practitioners, freelancers or staff of media platforms, based in Africa, with an interest in philanthropy, development, and social impact reporting, with one to three years of media or content creation experience encouraged.

Selected candidates will be expected to participate in all trainings and mentorship sessions, pitch and produce at least one publishable story, remain open to editorial feedback and revisions, contribute to shifting narratives on African philanthropy, and have access to a computer and stable internet connection.

The programme will focus on African philanthropy ecosystems and actors, ethical and responsible storytelling, fact-checking and verification, data and investigative reporting, and feature writing and multimedia storytelling.
