Officers from the Borno State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on September 25, 2026, arrested five men, namely Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abbacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio, and Abdulhamid Mohammed, in Maiduguri, the State capital, for allegedly printing and wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go.” The Command later charged the men before a Chief Magistrate Court in Maiduguri on September 29.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) dated September 29, 2026, and issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the men were arrested at around 11:00 a.m. around the West End Roundabout community in the Borno State capital.

The police charged them with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, and thuggery, offences the prosecution argues run contrary to Sections 60, 78, 79, and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code. They were also accused of printing and wearing the T-shirts with the alleged intention of causing a breach of public peace.

When the case came up on September 29, all five of them pleaded not guilty, while their counsel moved a bail application. The Chief Magistrate, however, ordered the five men to remain in custody as proceedings continue, and adjourned the matter to October 6, 2026, for a bail ruling, and fixed the substantive trial for October 26, 2026.

The men were granted bail by the court on October 6, during the bail ruling.
