On December 8, 2025, the Kaduna State Police Command arrested and detained Abubakar Idris, a Kaduna-based trader also known as Comrade Danhabu, over a Facebook post in which he criticised Governor Uba Sani and the state government.
According to reports, Idris was arrested following a Facebook post in which he accused the Kaduna State Government of disregarding a directive by President Bola Tinubu to withdraw police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country. He alleged that officials serving under Governor Uba Sani continued to move around with police escorts despite the presidential order.
After his arrest, the police detained Idris at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and arraigned him before a magistrate’s court on December 9, 2025. The court subsequently remanded him in prison custody and adjourned the case until January 13, 2026.
The police said Idris used his Facebook account to publish what they described as an injurious and misleading statement in Hausa, alleging that the Kaduna State Police Command had disobeyed the President’s directive by allowing VIPs in the state to retain police orderlies.
They also claimed that the Commissioner of Police had extended several invitations to Idris, asking him to provide credible information or evidence of any officers still attached to VIPs so that appropriate disciplinary action could be taken.
According to the police, Idris was arrested because he repeatedly failed to honour the invitations, which they said showed that his claims were false, malicious, and intended to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the Commissioner of Police and the command.
They added that he was subsequently arrested, investigated, and arraigned before a court on charges of cyberstalking and injurious falsehood.
Idris was, however, released on December 24, 2025.
