The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will hold the 2019 Publish Asia/Newsroom Summit Asia from May 7 to 9, 2019 in Singapore and is calling for applications for participation from journalists and media personalities to have a chance to visit newsrooms which are local, regional and international.

Participants will get an insider’s glimpse of the digital transformation underway at Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), one of Southeast Asia’s largest media companies. They will also learn how editorial decisions are informed by data and how print, digital and radio operations work together in the newly-renovated newsrooms of The Straits Times, Business Times, Lianhe Zaobao and SPH Radio.

In addition, participants of media innovator Juan Senor’s Turning Adversity into Opportunity: 11 News Business Models for Sustainable Revenues masterclass will visit regional broadcaster Mediacorp, whose pan-Asian TV channel, Channel NewsAsia, just turned 20 this year. Mediacorp’s campus boasts a massive newsroom, comprising TV, digital and radio news teams in four languages working alongside each other on a single floor. Participants will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a 45-minute interactive journey where they can take the TV news anchor’s chair, play radio presenter and enter the virtual reality world of Mediacorp’s over-the-top (OTT) service, the Toggle VR 360 Experience.

To wrap up the visit, participants will have tea with Channel NewsAsia Digital’s Chief Editor, Jaime Ho, then head to Bloomberg for an overview of how the global news giant delivers business and financial information, news and insights in 5,000 stories a day from 176 locations around the world. They will also see how the organisation utilises multiple platforms including web, mobile, social, TV, radio and the Bloomberg Terminal as well as tour the Bloomberg Singapore office and TV and radio studios and meet Bloomberg Asia’s Newsdesk Managing Editor, Bruce Grant.

Participation fees are: for WAN-IFRA members: SGD 1400 and for non-members: SGD 1780.
