The Pulitzer Center, an organisation that raises awareness of under-reported global issues through direct support for quality journalism across all media platforms, is inviting local media or radio outlets in East, Southern, and West Africa to apply for funding to create participatory radio programmes that involve listeners.

These programmes draw inspiration from Pulitzer Center-supported narratives. The purpose of the activity is to ensure community engagement while amplifying Pulitzer Center-supported journalism at the intersection of climate and labour. The main topic breakdowns for the initiatives include labour rights and conditions, livelihoods, climate justice, and the need for adaptation of labour regulations in response to climate change and its impacts on communities.

Proposals should inspire informed action and policy dialogue, engage and motivate communities to become active participants in the information ecosystem, and extend outreach to suburban and grassroots communities.

According to the Pulitzer Center, initiative partners will design and host participatory radio programmes or podcasts based on the organisation’s supported stories. These programmes will provide communities with a platform to interact directly with decision-makers, share perspectives, and deepen engagement on the issues that matter most.

By working with organisations that have strong local networks and proven capacity to engage youth, the Pulitzer Center ensures that outreach efforts remain locally led, contextually relevant, and sustainable. Radio engagement initiatives will not only amplify journalism in innovative formats, but will also help bridge urban and rural audiences, fostering more inclusive and informed dialogue.

Local media and radio outlets that are interested are encouraged to apply through the online application form. Be sure to submit your application on or before April 15, 2026, as late entries may not be considered.

The programme will run from June 1 to August 30, 2026, and selected participants are expected to actively take part throughout this period. After the programme ends, all required deliverables must be submitted by September 15, 2026.
