The Pulitzer Centre, an organisation that raises awareness of underreported global issues through direct support for quality journalism across all media platforms, is inviting journalists worldwide to pitch investigative stories that expose corruption, mismanagement, and systems that undermine democratic governance.
The grant is designed to support both freelance and staff journalists in pursuing cross-border, data-driven, and collaborative reporting. According to the Centre, the initiative focuses on uncovering the shadowy financial networks, policy failures, and abuses of power that destabilise nations and drain public resources. Recent years have seen the organisation invest heavily in high-impact investigations that track illicit financial flows, harmful supply chains, and systemic governance failures across various regions.
Applicants are required to submit a concise project description of no more than 250 words, a preliminary budget, and a compelling distribution plan outlining where and how the story will be published. Additional materials, such as detailed reporting plans, may be included.
In line with its commitment to diversity and inclusion, the Pulitzer Centre particularly welcomes applications from the Global South, including Africa, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia. The Center also encourages proposals from collaborative teams investigating corruption and governance issues.
The grant operates on a rolling basis, with applicants typically receiving feedback within one to two weeks. While open to a wide range of topics, the Centre notes that it does not fund books, feature-length films, staff salaries (except for specific fellowships), equipment purchases, or routine breaking news coverage.
Journalists with innovative distribution strategies, audience engagement ideas, or cross-border investigative plans are encouraged to apply through the Centre’s online portal. For further inquiries, applicants may contact the editorial team via the email provided in the guidelines.
