The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and other African media stakeholders, has opened registration and accreditation for the 3rd African Media Convention (AMC). The objective of the AMC is to reflect on the fundamental role of journalism on the continent, celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, and deliberate on measures to safeguard media freedoms and promote the safety of journalists in African (AU) Member States.

The AMC is the African version of the Global World Press Freedom Day and serves as a platform to bring together all the media stakeholders supporting the African media.

The Convention will provide an opportunity to reflect on achievements since the first edition, which was hosted by Ghana in 2018.

Furthermore, it will also create an atmosphere for networking and sharing of good practices by the various media personnel, journalism students and researchers, scholars, journalists’ unions and associations, editors, public and private sectors, CSOs, including cooperating partners from around the African continent and beyond, as well as representatives from UNESCO and the African Union and its Organs.

Expressing his delight, Mr. Albert K. Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association and Co- chair of the AMC Local Organising Committee, said: “This is, indeed, a confirmation of the readiness of the country to host the 3rd AMC from 15th to 17th May, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Centre, in Accra. It is jointly initiated and organised, in collaboration with the African media stakeholders and, in partnership with UNESCO and the African Union Directorate of Information and Communication.”

Interested partners are welcome to join the organisers and hosts of this event to make efforts to improve the African media landscape.

Interested participants are requested to register online before April 15, 2024, as well as express their interest to organise side or pre-events by sending a proposal to the email address: amcghana2024secretariat@gmail.com or contact the Secretariat on +233256622583 latest by March 30, 2024.
