Registration is now open for the 13th edition of the World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2025), taking place from December 1 to 5, 2025, at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa.

The biennial gathering will bring together science journalists, communicators, and scientists from around the world, and offers an opportunity to sharpen skills, network with peers, and uncover groundbreaking African science stories.

The conference is organised by the South African Science Journalists’ Association (SASJA) and the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA), an initiative and entity of the National Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI).

The overarching theme is: “Science journalism and social justice: journalism that builds understanding and resilience.” Delegates will enjoy discussions, workshops, access to expertise from around the world, and hands-on workshops, covering the well-being of people and the planet, the state of the profession, the art of communication, and misinformation, disinformation, and fake news.

The conference promises an engaging, relevant, and stimulating programme of content, which will offer opportunities for both inspiration and growth, and a bouquet of one-day trips and longer options to explore the science, natural, and cultural glories of South Africa.

The conference will also avail science journalists and their stakeholders an opportunity to interact, share ideas and information, stimulate debate and discussion, and form solutions regarding how science journalists can contribute to building resilience in the face of the many challenges the people of the world face.

Sessions to expect include: Bringing social justice into ocean science reporting; When industry endangers health and ecosystems; AI – Friend or Foe?, Reporting under fire; Challenging times: Climate change reporting amid denial and misinformation; and Telling the stories of astronomy in Africa.
