Registration is now open for the Group O English course at the Virtual School of Internet Governance (VSIG), which is scheduled to take place online from September 7, 2026, to November 27, 2026. The School is a free multi module Massive Open Online Courseware (MOOC) dedicated to the key pillars of Internet Governance.

The mission of the programme is to create a multilingual online training platform that allows novice and advanced students to learn the basics of Internet Governance in addition to learning to network globally, exchange information and improve their knowledge without any geographic or economic barrier.

According to the organizers, the rich content of the course focuses on the primary learning objectives as found in face-to-face schools of Internet Governance, which, due to COVID-19, were either halted or postponed.

The programme therefore seeks to reinforce the Internet Governance ecosystem with alternative options of learning with the VSIGs’ online courseware, providing an “integrated taxonomy” from the novice to the advanced individuals interested in learning the basics of Internet Governance. The course, therefore, plays a significant role in providing a coherent baseline knowledge foundation to all students.

The course is approximately a 10 week programme with 10 modules covering history, actors, infrastructure, development, security, legal, economic, social and cultural issues, human rights, and emergent technologies.

The programme accepts post-secondary students, encourages participation from emerging countries, and vets all speakers to establish their expertise and communication skills.

The objectives of the course are to provide a clear educational roadmap for students on Internet Governance, create a global, accessible course that is free to all participants, aggregate the most comprehensive collection of Internet Governance resources, and create a repository of video recordings open to the public of leaders in Internet Governance.

The course is open to all candidates from regions who are post-secondary students, as well as to fellows of ICANN, Internet Society (ISOC) and other fellows.

The obligations of students include to complete the student application, including their interest in taking the course, completing the student registration form and the Participant Guidebook, committing to 4 to 6 hours per module, participating in module discussion threads and introducing themselves, agreeing to the digital code of conduct, and attending weekly Live Chat sessions or viewing via Playlist.

Others are completing weekly Live Chat feedback, completing mid-course and end-course surveys, completing all modules, achieving 80 percent or greater on all quizzes, receiving certificates of completion, attending the confirmation or graduation session, and sharing suggestions for educational resources.

The benefits of the programme for students include taking part in the free online course, receiving a certication of completion, gaining an understanding of the nuances of the  Internet ecosystem, having a greater appreciation of the concepts and terminologies of Internet Governance, identifying core subjects matter and thought leaders shaping the Internet, being able to download course materials, the opportunity as certificate holders to join Alumni list.
