Registration is now open for the ninth edition of RightsCon the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age, which would be held online this year from Monday, July 27, 2020, to Friday, July 31, 2020.

Hosted by Access Now, this year’s summit will be the first to be held entirely online and will feature 250 sessions and more than eight tracks, spanning multiple time zones, with both live and asynchronous content, to allow participants join from wherever they are. Interested persons can register athttps://rightscon.org/rightscon-online-registration.

This year, in light of a shortened registration window accompanied with the challenges in the digital sphere, the organisers have opted to waive registration fees for RightsCon Online.

However, hosting RightsCon Online to the same standard and quality as an in-person summit requires significant investment. Therefore, at the end of the registration process, those with the means to contribute – representatives of the private sector or those who have an event or travel-specific budgets, for example – to consider supporting the cost of the event and their participation will be invited.

The blog post and registration guide include details participants need to prepare for RightsCon Online, including important resources, the timeline leading up to the summit, and answers to frequently asked questions.

The summit will bring together technologists, business leaders, activists, policymakers, journalists, and academics from all around the world to tackle the most pressing issues at the intersection of human rights and technology.

The RightsCon Online platform will open on July 22, 2020 – the week before RightsCon kicks off – giving participants access to explore an agenda of high-level panels, intimate fireside chats, facilitated strategy sessions, interactive community labs, one-on-one and group networking, and private meetings. This year’s programme will cover issues of critical importance which include:

  • Public health in the digital age
  • Protest, participation, and political change
  • Content governance, disinformation, and online hate
  • Privacy, digital identity, and surveillance systems
  • Election integrity and the future of democracy
  • Alternative models for business and labour
  • Connectivity and internet shutdowns
  • Peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian response
  • Civil society resistance and resilience
  • Data protection, and more

Registration for RightsCon Online is opened until July 20, 2020.
