Team CommUNITY (TCU), a community-based membership network that brings together digital rights defenders from across the globe, has announced the opening of  applications  for its 2024 Global Gathering (GG) which brings together digital rights networks from around the world for three days of collaboration, knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and rejuvenation. It is scheduled to take place from September 27 to 29, 2024, in Estoril, Portugal.

The 2024 programmatic themes include Ecosystem Wellbeing, Circumvention Technologies, Security, Threats, and Risks, and Digital Rights 2050. Event activities will focus on enhancing networking, and collaborative discussions through meetups, workshops, project showcases, and much more.

Building on the success of the 2023 event, the 2024 edition is set to double in size, accommodating approximately 900-1,000 participants. This expansion aligns with TCU’s three-year plan to grow the event in a safe, secure, and sustainable manner. Participants will engage with pressing challenges at the intersection of human rights, social justice, and technology, actively working towards protecting their communities and networks.

Applications are open to individuals worldwide working on issues at the intersection of human rights and technology, digital rights, internet freedom, or community protection. The GG team encourages early applications, as the demand is expected to be high. The application process is easily accessible through the event application platform.

The 2024 Global Gathering officially relaunches the Equity Fund, to provides support to participants from historically low-resourced, under-represented communities who otherwise cannot attend the event.

Once applications are approved, participants can propose activities such as meetups, sessions, or workshops. This initiative empowers attendees to shape their experience, achieve personal and organizational goals, and prioritize networking, knowledge-sharing, brainstorming, and collaboration building.

The GG team encourages participants to stay tuned for the call for programming proposals. This opportunity allows attendees to propose activities that enhance or elevate networking, knowledge-sharing, brainstorming, and collaboration building. Notable events include the popular Project Showcase and a Job Fair, complementing the recruitment support provided throughout the year.
