This Annual Report on Media Freedom in Nigeria documents and analyses some of these developments, particularly the attacks, which painted a picture of the media as an enemy of the State that must be crushed by any means. As in previous years, security agencies featured prominently among the perpetrators of attacks, underscoring the persistent failure of the state to uphold its constitutional duty to protect journalists and guarantee media freedom.

It assesses the conduct of state and non-state actors, and examines emerging trends affecting freedom of expression, media freedom, access to information and digital rights.
