The Reuters Institute is inviting applications for 2023/2024 cohorts of its Journalist Fellowship Programme, one of the world’s leading schemes for practising, mid-career journalists to take some time out from their day jobs to explore journalism in depth.

The programme accepts around 30 Journalist Fellows from around the world every year, each of whom brings fascinating insights and a wealth of experience to the institute.

Fellows will be embedded in a cutting-edge institution that is shaping key media debates; the Reuters Institute produces factsheets and reports on the main challenges of the industry. They will also be part of an institution with a global outlook; Reuters Journalist Fellows come from all over the world and they share ideas and experiences of working in different countries and different mediums.

Fellows will also be part of one of the world’s greatest universities; Oxford offers unrivalled study facilities, leading research centres, extensive learning support and a global reputation.

They will be just one hour from London by train, providing convenient access to some of the world’s leading news publishers like The Guardian, the Financial Times and the BBC.

The Fellowships are three or six months, depending on the funding a fellow receives. Fellows begin in either October, January or April.

The majority of Reuters Journalist Fellows are fully-funded and they also receive a stipend to cover living and travel costs.

Through personal research, seminars, networking events and discussions with peers, Fellows further their understanding of journalism, the news industry and their place in it. While in Oxford, Fellows will work on a project that will be of direct impact to them, their career, their newsrooms and the wider media industry, bringing in what they learn during their time in the fellowship.

The programme is for working journalists and editors who will return to journalism after spending a few months with Reuters Institute.

Applications for the 2023/2024 fellowship cohorts (starting in October 2023, January 2024 and April 2024) are now open and interested journalists can apply here. The application deadline is February 6, 2023.
