The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General, has invited nominations from governments, the private sector, civil society, and the technical and academic communities for membership of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) for 2026.
The IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group has played a central role in shaping and planning the programme of the annual Internet Governance Forum meetings, providing strategic guidance and ensuring that the Forum remains inclusive, balanced, and responsive to emerging global internet governance issues. DESA has expressed appreciation to past and serving MAG members for their dedication, expertise, and valuable contributions to the continued success of the IGF.
The call for nominations forms part of the periodic renewal of the MAG in line with its established principles of rotation, inclusiveness, and diversity. Stakeholder and regional groups are encouraged to submit nominations of qualified candidates from developed and developing countries, as well as economies in transition, to ensure broad and equitable representation.
Successful nominees will serve on the MAG for a one-year term and will participate actively in the multistakeholder consultation process, contributing the perspectives and experiences of their respective stakeholder groups to discussions on global internet governance. In selecting members, due consideration will be given to geographical balance, stakeholder diversity, and gender equity.
DESA has urged all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the selection and operating principles of the MAG, which are available on the Internet Governance Forum website, and to ensure that nominations are submitted in accordance with those guidelines.
All nominations must be submitted to the IGF Secretariat using the online submission template available on the IGF website. The deadline for submission of nominations is February 26, 2026.
According to the United Nations, the renewal of the MAG remains critical to sustaining the IGF as an open, inclusive, and effective platform for dialogue on internet governance issues globally, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in the process.
