UNESCO invites professional photographers across the globe to submit samples of their best photographs that illustrate journalists carrying out their job and in particular on the issues of the safety of journalists and impunity for crimes against them.
The global body is looking for images that illustrate journalists working in different situations including for instance, international or local journalists covering events such as demonstrations, trials, major public events, investigations on corruption, citizen journalists, journalists embedded with police or the military, journalists reporting from conflict zones, journalists in protected vehicles or in front of media houses with protection or such other case in which journalists, including women reporters, are at work in sensitive situations.
UNESCO will select photographs based on artistic, creative and original content. It will establish a contract with the photographers, purchase the selected photographs, and get them to grant UNESCO a non-exclusive right for the selected photographs.
For photographs to qualify for selection, a participant should send a maximum of 12 photographs; be in colour with a minimum resolution of 350 dpi; minimum size of A4; each photograph captioned in English or French with information including place, time, subject; and price per single photograph.

Deadline for submission of entry photographs is April 15, 2017 at 5pm GMT.
As the United Nations agency with a specific mandate to promote “the free flow of ideas by word and image”, UNESCO will use selected photographs to raise awareness on the working conditions of journalists and to illustrate activities and programs contributing to the safety of journalists and the fight against impunity.
