The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) will host the 2025 edition of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, featuring a global conference on October 23 and 24, 2025, in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2025 will be celebrated worldwide with the theme “Minds Over AI – MIL in Digital Spaces” from October 24 to 31, 2025. Under the 2025 theme, UNESCO invites organisations, educational institutions, libraries, municipal authorities and civil society groups to register to hold both online and in-person activities between September and November. Registered initiatives will be featured on the Global MIL Week website, and exemplary efforts will be highlighted in UNESCO’s press releases and newsletters.

The Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an international movement that has been commemorated annually since 2011. It encourages stakeholders from all corners of the world to share ideas and discuss innovative ways to promote Media and Information Literacy for all, and to host events and activities where everyone is invited to contribute to this global initiative.

This year, the Global Media and Information Literacy Week conference will offer participants at the Cartagena de Indias event the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions, explore innovative paths to strengthen collaboration in the field of Media and Information Literacy, and also learn from experts.
