The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office in Abuja and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State are organizing a capacity-building workshop in Abeokuta from April 9- 12, 2013 for female journalism students in the area of precision and investigative journalism.
The training is a step towards rectifying gender imbalance in the area of precision journalism. It is aimed at redressing the stereotype of assigning women journalists to women-related beats while men are assigned to beats where in-depth analyses and deductions needed to be made from a gamut of data.
The organizers are expecting 35 participants from six institutions to take part in the workshop.
The participants will be final year female students of Mass Communication drawn from the two UNESCO centres of reference: Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Lagos State University, Covenant University, Ota; Babcock University, Ilishan; Caleb University, Lagos; and Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye.
