The Wahlgrenska Foundation (Wahlgrenska stiftelsen), a philanthropic foundation based in Malmö, Sweden, that supports media development, principally through grants for media research, has opened applications for six general media research grants worth SEK 100,000 (about USD 10,300) each. Younger postdoctoral researchers with clearly defined research projects will be given priority.
The funding is aimed at research exploring the role of mass media, including the press, radio, television, and digital media. Areas of interest include how media is produced, the content and forms of expression it uses, how information is distributed, and the influence of media on society, people’s attitudes, and everyday lives.
Research proposals may focus on local, national, or international issues and can examine the history of media, its present state, or its possible future.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong scientific quality and proven research capacity. Alongside a research plan, applications must include a CV, copies of diploma certificates, a list of published works, and the contact details of two referees.
Researchers based outside Sweden are also eligible to apply.
Applications must be submitted digitally to Fredrik Jacobsson at fredrik.jacobsson@luterkort.se no later than September 18, 2026. The application form can be accessed here. Grant decisions are expected to be announced in October 2026.
Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report on how the funding was used by December 31, 2029.
The applications will be reviewed by the Wahlgrenska Foundation’s Research Council. Applicants who have questions about the funding can contact the Chairman, Professor Magnus Jerneck, at magnus.jerneck@svet.lu.se.
