The World Press Institute (WPI), an organisation that empowers journalists worldwide to navigate and excel in a dynamic media landscape, is calling on qualified journalists to apply for its 2026 journalism fellowship programme, designed to advance journalistic excellence and expand professional horizons.

The Institute makes 10 fellowship slots available yearly, and finalists represent some of the best journalists in their respective countries. Fellows are innately curious, intelligent and ambitious, and approach journalism with a deep sense of dedication and responsibility. During the fellowship, fellows gain access to, engage with, and observe the role, responsibility, and impact of a free press in the United States of America. Through an immersive programme, fellows will learn how the U.S. founding principles of a free press and journalistic best practices help foster transparency and accountability of government institutions, businesses, and organisations.

To apply, applicants are required to provide three publicly accessible work samples, a digitised, colour photo of themselves, and the names and accurate email addresses of three references. See the “How to Apply” page for application guidelines, including allowable file formats. Also, please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. If you still have questions, contact apply@worldpressinstitute.org.

The application for this programme will close on February 15, 2026. The review committee will announce selections in May 2026.

Successful candidates will travel to the United States from August to November and participate in a nine-week cross-country programme that begins and ends in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
