The Euro-Mediterranean and African Network for Economic Studies (EMANES) Annual Conference which provides a forum for academic researchers, practitioners and policy makers to discuss current issues related to socio-economic development and regional integration in the Mediterranean and Africa, has announced call for paper for the 2024 edition of the Conference.

EMANES Conference 2024 will be held by the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA), in collaboration with the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) at EMEA Headquarters in Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, Barcelona. It is also calling for papers for the Conference. The theme for this year is “Navigating new frontiers: Digitalization, labor markets and societal transformation in Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa.”

The call for papers invites submissions of high-quality unpublished manuscripts on topics related to the digitalization in the EU-Mediterranean Africa with the focus on achieving a just transition towards a transparent, resilient, green, inclusive sustainable and regenerative socio-economic development, but not limited to:

  1. Digitalization’s Impact on Labor: Insight into how AI and digital innovations are redefining the employment landscape, highlighting both the potential risks and benefits.
  2. Skills Development for the Digital Age: Examination of strategies and policies needed to upskill and reskill the workforce, aligning with the evolving requirements of a digital economy.
  3. Migration in the Digital Era: Analysis of how digital technologies influence migration trends and the integration of migrants into new labor markets.
  4. Well-Being in Digital Workspaces: Consideration of the effects of digital employment environments on mental and physical health, proposing measures to foster a healthy work-life balance.
  5. Digital Trade: Investigating the transformative effect of digital platforms and tools on international trade, market access and the global economy, while exploring the role of regional value chains.
  6. Digital Financial Inclusion: Exploration of the ways in which digital financial services are making economic participation more accessible, enhancing entrepreneurship and supporting small business growth.
  7. Gender Equity in the Age of Digitalization: Investigation of how digital advancements can bridge the gender gap within the labor market and ensure equal opportunities for all.
  8. Digitalization and Private Sector Development: Discussion on how digital technologies can spur private sector growth, emphasizing the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in driving economic advancement.
  9. Fostering Regional Collaborations: Proposals for regional partnerships that utilize digital innovation to encourage inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
  10. Demographic changes and the adoption of robot and automation technologies

The deadline for submission of papers is October 15, 2024; notification of acceptance is November 6, 2024; registration deadline for accepted author is November 15, 2024; while the Conference dates are December 11 to 13, 2024.

The Conference 2024 invites established and emerging scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to explore cutting-edge research on digitalization and economic change. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies drive a major shift in labor markets across Europe, the Mediterranean, and Africa, this conference will address the dual nature of this transformation – highlighting both the challenges and the extensive opportunities it offers for societal and economic progress.

Though its theme changes annually, the EMANES Annual Conference consistently aims to foster high-level discussions on groundbreaking research that sheds light on how socio-economic issues impact national and regional economies.
