AFP Calls for Applications for African Fact-Checking Awards

Africa Check, a project of the Agence France Presse (AFP) Foundation, is calling for applications for the African Fact-Checking Awards which honor journalism that exposes misleading claims made by public figures and institutions.

The Fact-Checking 2017 Awards will be hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa in November 2017.

Application must come from Print, broadcast and online journalists whose works held public figures accountable can compete for cash prizes

Works must be original pieces of fact-checking journalism first published or broadcast between Sept. 1, 2016 and Aug. 31, 2017 by a media house based in Africa.  Entries may have been published or broadcast in French or English.

Two winners will receive cash prize of US$2,000 each while two runners-up will receive cash prize of US$1,000 each. There will also be a US$500 prize each for a winner of the best report by a student journalist in English- and French-speaking media.

Submission of application closes on August 31, 2017.
