Application Opens for World Nomads 2018 Travel Photography Scholarship

The World Nomads is calling for applications for its 2018 Travel Photography Scholarship to Morocco. The application period is open from  August 31, 2018 to October 11, 2018.

Winner of the scholarship will receive return economy airfare from the winner’s nearest international airport to Marrakesh, Morocco, courtesy of Airtreks (valued at approximately AU$2,000); a 10-day mentorship with travel photographer and mentor Richard I’Anson in Morocco, courtesy of World Expeditions (valued at approximately AU$2,000). The accommodation, local transport, activity and food costs of the winner will be borne by World Expeditions and is valued at approximately AU$3000. Other benefits to the winner include cost of any relevant visas and vaccinations if necessary (valued at approximately AU$400; a copy of Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Photography by Richard I’Anson, valued at approximately AU$30; Osprey outdoor gear, valued at approximately AU$750; and travel insurance for the duration of the trip from World Nomads, valued at approximately AU$200.

Applicants will have to upload and caption up to 5 images for their photo essays, complete an application form which includes contact details, a personal essay (1,500 character maximum) on why he/she should be chosen and what the opportunity means to him/her.

Applicants whose portfolios reach the final round of judging will be asked to supply the following upon request, for comparison with their competition entry: RAW file (e.g. *.NEF, *.CR2, *.CRW etc), or original JPEG as captured by the camera. DNG files are only permitted if DNG is the native RAW format of the camera. Accordingly, the largest file (preferably TIF) will be requested, to check that it is an adequate file size for reproduction or original transparency or black and white negative.

Finalists may be required to provide full picture information, along with when and how the picture was taken. Technical details including camera, lens, exposure, speed, and other equipment used will also be required. All applications must be submitted in English.

The Scholarship recipient (winner) will be selected by a panel of judges including three independent judges who will select the best overall application from a review of all eligible applications. The winning application will best interpret both the photography brief and articulate why the author of the application should be awarded the 2018 World Nomads Travel Photography Scholarship. The selection will be conducted at WorldNomads.com Pty Limited of Governor Macquarie Tower, Level 18, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney, NSW 2000 between October 11 and November 27, 2018. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into, including in the event of a dispute.

Application must not (as determined in Sponsor’s discretion): (i) violate any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, copyrights, trademark rights, or rights of privacy and publicity; (ii) contain disparaging or defamatory statements; (iii) include threats to any person, place, business, or group; (iv) be obscene, offensive, or indecent; (v) depict risky behaviour; (vi) be untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate or misleading information; (vii) contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm, against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; or (viii) contain unauthorized third-party trademarks or logos.
