Wolfson College, Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA), a volunteer association that promotes professional journalism, a free media, and freedom of expression across the Commonwealth, are inviting mid-career journalists from Commonwealth countries to apply to become Derek Ingram Press Fellows to join the Wolfson Press Fellowship Programme.

The Fellowship is a residential programme held at Wolfson College for three months during the Easter Term, 2024. The Programme has been running since 1982 and to date has trained over 350 journalists from 47 countries.

The Derek Ingram Press Fellowship, launched together with the Commonwealth Journalists Association, will cover all costs of the Wolfson College Press Fellowship programme.

The Fellowship honours the memory of Derek Ingram, the distinguished journalist who did so much to improve media coverage and public understanding of the Commonwealth throughout his long career, and who was also a life-long supporter of the Wolfson Press Fellowship Programme.

Fellows will join a small cohort of other journalists at Wolfson College for a ten-week period, from April 2024, during which they will investigate a subject of their choice under light academic supervision, relevant to one or more of three broad themes: the changing role of media in a networked world; improving the reporting of business, the environment, sustainable development, medicine, bio-science and technology; and the role of free media in democratic governance.

The Derek Ingram Press Fellowship covers all of the fees, living, travel and project-related expenses of Fellows from the moment they arrive until they depart. It also covers travel to, from, and within the UK, along with any Visa application costs. Fellows are provided with a room each in College, as well as full dining rights. The Fellowship however does not cover any cost associated with a spouse, partner and/or family if they accompany the Fellow to Cambridge.

To apply, interested journalists should please follow the steps outlined on the Press Fellowship applications webpage. The deadline for submission of applications for the Derek Ingram Press Fellowship is 10 January 2024.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via Zoom in late January/Early February by a Press Fellowship panel. For questions, clarifications, and further information, please email press-fellowship@wolfson.cam.ac.uk.
