Armed political thugs on March 18, 2023, assaulted and drove journalists and officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) away from Ward 13 polling Unit 22, Itori Odo, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State when a journalist started taking pictures at the unit.
On sighting the journalist taking pictures, an agent of the All Progressive Congress (APC) agent challenged him saying they had instructions not to allow anybody to take pictures or record videos at the unit. All efforts to convince the agent fell on deaf ears.
Adejoke Adeleye, a reporter with the News Agency of Nigeria (NANS), and several other journalists were assaulted at the unit as well as officials of INEC while ballot boxes were destroyed.
