Associazione DIG Documentari Inchieste Giornalismi – ETS, a non-profit association based in Modena, Italy, that supports investigative journalism by providing financial and organizational support and by organising events, research, and training, is now accepting entries for the 2026 edition of the DIG Awards from journalists and filmmakers worldwide.
For more than twelve years, the awards have stood out as one of the leading global platforms celebrating outstanding documentary filmmakers and journalists. The international competition has also set a strong standard for excellence in documentary storytelling and journalism over the years.
The organisers of the DIG Awards have outlined the different categories for the 2026 edition, giving journalists and filmmakers several opportunities to showcase their work.
The competition is divided into multiple sections, including five video categories, which are open to documentaries and other video productions. There is also an Audio & Podcast category for audio storytelling, as well as the DIG Pitch category, designed for documentary projects that are still in development, pre-production, or already in production.
Entries for all categories opened on March 6, 2026, with deadlines set across June. Submissions for the Investigative Long, Investigative Medium, Reportage Long, Reportage Medium, Short, and Audio & Podcast categories will close at 10 pm (CET) on June 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, applicants for the DIG Pitch “Matteo Scanni” category have a bit more time, as submissions for that section will close at 10 pm (CET) on June 15, 2026.
All entries must have English subtitles, regardless of the original production language. This requirement applies even to works where the audio is entirely or partially in English. Unsubtitled or partially subtitled entries will be inelligible for competition and will be automatically excluded.
Interested applicants should note that works submitted to previous editions of the DIG Awards are not eligible for consideration. They are also required to provide a verified point of contact, as anonymous submissions will not be accepted. In addition, all entries must be original works and must fully comply with international copyright and intellectual property laws.
The winners will be announced at the next DIG Festival, which will take place in Modena from September 23 to 27, 2026.
