Brazil to Host 12th International Conference of Information Commissioners

ICIC-logo(1)Registration is now open for the 12th International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC), which is billed to take place in Brasilia, Brazil, from June 2 to 4, 2020 under the auspices of the Government of Brazil

Open to all Information Commissioners, Ombudspersons, and Transparency Councils all over the world, the ICIC is a global members’ organisation whose role is to protect and promote the right of access to public information and to generally oversee compliance with the FOI/RTI act within their jurisdictions.

The 11th conference of the ICIC took place in March 2019 in Johannesburg and marked important milestones with the adoption of the ICIC Charter, which formally establishes the ICIC as a permanent network dedicated to connecting information commissioners in order to improve government and other public authorities’ transparency and accountability.

The Secretariat of the ICICunderstands that many participants will be concerned about recent developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and its impact on their travel and participation at ICIC 2020. To this end the theControladoria-Geral da União (CGU) and the Secretariat of the ICIC is making the safety of all participants its top priority and promises to continue monitoring the outbreak and international response to determine the best way forward.

The CGU are the body responsible for reviewing the decisions of public authorities related to requests for info within the Federal Executive branch.

Organisersrecognise that the landscape is evolving rapidly and, as such, promises to communicate towards the end of March about their approach with regards to the planning of the Conference.
