On January 12, 2019, a prominent broadcaster with the state-owned Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), Mr. Peter Etim, popularly known as Petex, was kidnapped in Calabar, the State capital, while leaving home to go to his office.
The incident was confirmed by Irene Igbo, DSS and PPRO of the state police command, who said they were working to establish contact with the kidnappers.
Condemning the kidnap, Comrade Victor Ndu, chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State, called for immediate release of Peter and on security agencies in the state to wake up to their duties.
