Cameraman Disappears Later Found Dead

On November 16, 2017, Mr. Ikechukwu Onubogu, a cameraman with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), was found dead four days after he left home following a phone call he received from an unknown person.

Ikechukwu was reported to have received a phone call in the afternoon of November 12, after which he took his camera and left his home, located near the popular Aroma Junction in Awka in Awka in Anambra State. When he did not return, his family declared him missing.

Mr. Uche Nworah, the Managing Director of ABS, described late Ikechukwu as a peace loving man whom you would never expect that anybody would want to harm adding

That his death was a reminder of the dangers journalists face in Africa, in the course of discharging their professional responsibilities.

Confirming the incident, ASP Nkeiru Nwode, the state Police/Public Relations Officer (PPRO) assured the public that the police would uncover Onobogu’s killers.

 He said: “The police have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death; we assure the public that no stone would be left unturned, until the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
