For reporting the assault, arrest and detention of Ms Mary Ekere, Premium Times newspaper Regional Editor for the South-south, Cletus Ukpong has reported being threatened by Cristo Ekpoh, a confidant of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Akwa Ibom State Governor.
He was warned that the same kind of treatment meted out to May would be meted out to him.
Following the publication of the arrest of Mary by Premium Times, Cristo went to Premium Times Facebook timeline to condemn the report. He tagged Cletus in his reaction claiming that the report was misleading saying “Misleading headline by Cletus Ukpong to tarnish the image of the governor. It should have been you that was thrown into prison.”
The journalist disclosed that Cristo threatened to deal with him and members of his family, warning him that he would be attacked anywhere he is found.
