Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 18, 2023, barred journalists and others from observing the collation of results of the governorship and house of assembly elections from the wards at its collation centre at the Somolu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Rather than collate the results publicly, INEC officials took the results from the wards to an inner office where, with some selected persons, they carried out the exercise. At about 4:58 am on March 19, the returning officer, alongside police escorts, left the INEC LGA office at Somolu with the results. The outcome was not disclosed to journalists or other observers.
