Documentari Inchieste Giornalismi (DIG), a non-profit association that supports investigative journalism in Italy and worldwide through funding, research, promotion and education is inviting entries for the annual international DIG Awards competition that awards the best journalistic investigations and reportages in video and audio format

The DIG Awards acknowledge excellence in journalism and encourage the work of reporters who use video and audio to investigate current social, economic, technological, environmental and political issues.

They are presented each year to outstanding works of international calibre, in terms of quality, angle, depth of inquiry, the use of sources and the originality of format.

The competition is open to productions by freelancers, broadcasters, media companies, newspapers and magazines both online and in print, radio and television stations, agencies, platforms, consortia, associations, and production companies.

The DIG Awards are non-monetary prizes and the organisers ask a small entry fee for video categories. However, only the DIG Pitch category offers a monetary prize of up to €15.000 in funding to a project that is currently in a pre-production or development phase.

The awards are available in three categories and finalists must submit the following materials by August 31, 2022 to the Festival staff or face disqualification:

For Video category, the finalists must send their film in DCP format following the specifications indicated in the paragraph “What technical requirements must I meet?” They will also be required to send a trailer (or an excerpt) of the project in high resolution with a maximum duration of 3 minutes, free of logos and watermarks;

The finalists for the Audio Category must send to the Festival a downloadable full mp3 version of the project. They must also send the following supporting material by email (to entries@dig-awards.org): photos of the authors, poster or other high-resolution promotional image of the project. In the subject line write: “DIG Awards 2022 | Audio submission | Your project name”.

For the DIG Pitch category, authors of the selected projects must send the video material in MP4 format for the pitching session no later than September 15, 2022. All other required materials will be specified in the upcoming DIG Pitch application form.

The application process is exclusively through the FilmFreeway platform, which can be accessed through the following link. The application has a small entry-fee of €15,00 per submission.

To apply, an entrant must create a user profile on the platform, select and proceed to submission by filling in all the required fields on the form.

Only works entirely subtitled in English (even when the original audio is entirely or partially in English) will be admitted to the pre-selection phase. Works that do not meet these criteria will be automatically excluded.

All the works that enter the competition will be evaluated by a pre-selection committee consisting of film-makers, directors, broadcasters, journalists and members of DIG. The International Jury of the DIG Awards will be in charge of choosing the finalists and the winners. All decisions made by the pre-selection committee and the Jury are final.

To enter the competition, entrants should use the following link: for video entry, use this form https://filmfreeway.com/DIGFestival; for audio entries, use this entry form https://bit.ly/DIGAudio2022; and for the pitch entry, use this form https://bit.ly/DIGPitch2022.

The 2022 DIG Awards will be assigned during the DIG Festival, a 4-days conference that this year will be held in Modena (Italy) from September 22 to 25, 2022.
