A female journalist based in Sapele, Delta State, Mrs. Stephanie Ikanone Odiete, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged threats, intimidation, and harassment by Hon. Ovo Abeke, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 7 in Sapele Local Government Area.
Citing an incident when she was threatened, the journalist said on April 6, 2023, during the APC senatorial primary election, involving Senator Ede Dafinone and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, which she attended strictly in her professional capacity as a reporter, a disagreement arose over a WhatsApp group linked to APC Ward 7, which Mr Abeke accused her of creating. She said she denied the accusation and explained that she was added as a participant after the WhatsApp group had been created. She said she was harassed by Hon. Abeke and another individual who confronted her during her journalistic duties.
She disclosed that following the incident, her lawyer, P. M. Obiagba, petitioned the DSS office in Sapele on April 10, 2023.
Thus, Mrs Odiete petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged repeated threats, intimidation, and harassment over the years by Mr Abeke. She expressed concerns for her safety and called on the DSS to investigate the allegations and take necessary steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
