Free Press Unlimited Accepting Nominations for Free Press Awards 2021

Free Press Unlimited is now accepting nominations for two awards: the Most Resilient Journalist and Newcomer of the Year for the 2021 edition of the Free Press Awards, which recognise exceptional journalists and media professionals who have a strong commitment to press freedom and independent information.

Free Press Unlimited strongly believes that all people are entitled to have access to unbiased, reliable and relevant information enabling them to assess their own living conditions, influence these and make the right decision.

The awards will therefore, honour journalists who risk everything to bring news, media pioneers who pave the way for equality and justice, and those who persevere under the most difficult circumstances.

The Most Resilient Journalist Award is presented to a journalist who has demonstrated extraordinary strength of character, courage and perseverance in reporting the news and has often faced imprisonment, violence and censorship for doing his/her job. Such journalist must have shown a strong commitment to press freedom and independent information, and is a generally highly-regarded journalist who is willing to risk his/her life or freedom in order to keep the public informed.

The Newcomer of the Year in Journalism Award, talented new journalists who have put in a strong performance when it comes to reporting the news and demonstrate exceptional commitment to press freedom and independent coverage, and use innovative methods to disseminate this information.

Nominations for the awards will be judged by an independent panel of international experts. The winner in the ‘Most Resilient Journalist’ Award will receive a cash prize while the winner of ‘Newcomer of the Year’ Award will receive a media scholarship of choice.

The deadline to nominate a journalist is September 15, 2021, 00.00 CET. Prospective applicants and those who want to nominate should please note that self-nomination will not be taken into consideration and those nominating can only choose one category for their nominees. Nominations for both categories will not be taken into consideration.
