Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, on November 26, 2018 sacked the Managing Directors of three media houses owned by the State Rivers State Television, Radio Rivers and Garden City Radio over their failure to attend the 71st General Assembly of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) held in Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt.

The meeting was focused on raising the bar in the digitization of the broadcast industry and was led by BON Chairman, Mr. John Momoh.

The Governor said their sack was as a result of their failure to attend and participate at the BON meeting.

He expressed his displeasure at the attitude showed by the stations with none of the state-owned broadcasting parastatals honouring the meeting.

Governor Wike, however, charged the BON to always stand on the side of the people and speak the truth concerning the issues in the country at all times.

On his part, the BON Chairman stated that the organisation will remain apolitical at all times and as Chairman of BON and Channels Media Group, he has no intentions whatsoever, to meddle in politics.
