Journalists around the world are invited to apply for the 2018 edition of Hearst Journalism Fellowship, under which fellows will receive training, mentoring and real-world experience alongside top journalists who are using cutting-edge tools to tell stories through data, video among other methods.

It is a two-year programme focusing on multimedia journalism. Successful applicants take part in two 12-month rotations at its top metro papers writing stories, shooting and producing their own videos and blogs, and using social media to raise awareness about their work.

The fellowship seeks to create immersive experiences that let audiences get involved with reporting. Fellows may be offered a job at the end of the two-year programme.

Candidates should ideally be college graduates or others with interest, experience or background in journalism or related fields. Those selected will have hands-on experience and access to leaders in the field.

Non-US citizens are eligible to apply. However, the programme does not sponsor visas or pay for travel to the final judging from outside the US. Applicants qualify for the programme if they have (or can obtain independently, not based on acceptance into the programme) a visa that would allow them to work for two years beginning in August.

The deadline for receipt of applications is January 12, 2018. Finalists for Fellowship will be notified on March 2018; they will be interviewed in Houston and Fellows selected April 2018 while in August 2018, the next class of Fellows begins its first rotation.
