Operatives of the Osun State Police Command on October 21, 2021 arrested a journalist with Daily Post newspaper, Mr. Sikiru Obarayese, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, during the #EndSARS memorial protest and later arraigned him before a Magistrate Court.
Obarayese was later arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on two counts of making a video recording of the Divisional Police Officer of the Dugbe Division, Oyegbade Akinloye, and assault.
The journalist, who appeared before Magistrate A. O. Daramola, according to the prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, committed the offences, which are contrary to sections 249(5) and 356 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Laws of Osun State.
Obarayese pleaded not guilty to the charges before Adeoye informed the court that the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, had directed that the charges be withdrawn.
Daramola subsequently struck out the case.
