A reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mrs Pauline Kuje Vana, was on February 26, 2023, attacked by an angry mob while covering a fire outbreak at the Maiduguri Monday Market in Borno State.
The incident was reported to have started at about 1.00 am and lasted till 8:30 am, despite efforts by the Fire Service men to stop the raging inferno, a development that led to the destruction of goods worth billions of Naira.
The journalist was attacked and beaten alongside her crew in an attempt to file a live report on the fire incident at the market.
An eyewitness said: “The angry shop owners who are victims of the fire outbreak and sympathisers attacked the crew and injured the reporter.”
The reporter was later taken to the 7 Division Nigerian Army Hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.
