Mr. Samson Isah Alfa, the Niger State Correspondent of Aljazeera newspapers, has raised the alarm over threats to his life. This, according to him, is as a result of his discovery of a facility suspected to have been used for rigging the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state. He alleged that he has since been receiving threatening calls, mostly from politicians belonging to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), warning him to stay away from the matter.

Samson said he was among the first to visit the facility, which he said belongs to one of the political aides to Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello, and found many computers, BVAS machines, ballot papers, and voters’ cards, among other materials.

He stated that some top government functionaries, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Special Adviser to the Governor, had come to the building and started questioning why they were there.

Samson said, “They even called my family people and some of them have called to inform me how they were told to warn me to steer clear in my own interest”.

He has called on the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and security agencies to look into the matter, saying he was only carrying out his duties as a journalist trying to uncover what was going on inside the facility.
