Journalist Seeks Protection over Threat to Life

The Editor of an online news platform, EyewitnessMedia, Mr. Adewale Adetoyese, has called on the security agencies to give him protection following alleged threats to his life

Adewale, made the call on April 18, 2022 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, lamenting that he has been receiving strange telephone calls from unknown persons threatening to deal with him if he dares continue with an investigative report he has been working on.

According to him, the investigative report is based on some persons recruiting young girls between ages 14 and 18 to Osun State from the middle belt and Southeastern part of Nigeria for prostitution among other unlawful activities.

He said ever since he started the report, he has been receiving calls, asking him to discontinue the investigation and threatening to deal with him if he does not discontinue the investigation. 

He added that in one of the calls, a man with a baritone voice who gave his name as ‘Chief’ had called and threatened him over an assignment that he has been on for about two months regarding syndicate child traffickers.

 He said the decision to commence investigations into these activities in order to attract the attention of appropriate authorities towards apprehending the perpetrators was however being met with countless threats which he receives on a daily basis.

He therefore, urged the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to protect him from all forms of attack and harassment as he continues to discharge his legitimate duties.
