Journalists Attacked at Polling Unit, Equipment Damaged

Four journalists and a media worker covering the February 25, 2023, Presidential and National Assembly elections in Bayelsa State were assaulted, their phones seized, their cameras broken, and prevented from covering the elections.

Daily Post state correspondent, Akam James, was assaulted around the voting area while taking note of the voting processes at ward 05 unit 19 in Ebelebiri community; the publisher of Upfront news magazine, Princewill Sede and the managing editor, Jeany Metta were beaten; while TVC reporter, Mr. Joe Kunde and the cameraman, Mr. Miebi Bina were also chased out of the community.

They were attacked when the smooth voting process at the polling unit was disrupted following attempt by a voter to assist an elderly woman to cast her vote.
