The organisers of the 12th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM 2027) are inviting researchers, journalists, media professionals, policymakers, communication practitioners, and students to submit research papers for the conference. The conference is being convened by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), a Sri Lanka-based organisation that organises international academic and knowledge-sharing conferences.
The conference will take place between April 5 and 6, 2027, in Bangkok, Thailand, under the theme: “Signals Beyond the Algorithm: Humanity, Trust, & Freedom in an AI-Driven Media World.”
MEDCOM has been held annually for more than a decade and brings together people working in media, journalism, communication, and related fields. The 2027 conference will examine how rapid technological changes, particularly artificial intelligence, are affecting media and communication around the world.
The conference aims to examine how artificial intelligence, data-driven systems, and emerging technologies are changing journalism and media production; discuss digital trust, misinformation, press freedom, and ethical communication; explore the role of media in democracy, civic participation, and social change; examine strategic, crisis, and risk communication; discuss representation, culture, identity, and inclusion in modern media; and promote international collaboration among academics, media professionals, and institutions.
The programme will include keynote speeches, panel discussions, academic sessions, poster presentations, pre-conference workshops, and networking opportunities. Participants will also have opportunities to explore research publication through conference proceedings, special issues, and partner journals.
Researchers can submit papers on a wide range of topics, including AI, Technology, and the Future of Media; Social Media, Influence, and Social Change; Journalism and Mediated Communication; Strategic Communication, Public Relations, and Advertising; and Risk and Crisis Communication.
Other tracks include Civic Information, Press Freedom, and Democratic Resistance; Environmental and Sustainability Communication; and Communication and Culture.
Researchers submitting abstracts should ensure that their abstracts are between 175 and 275 words and presented as one paragraph. Each abstract should include no more than six keywords, written in lowercase, except for names and scientific names. Abstracts should not contain subheadings, bullet points, lists or headers/footers. Titles should be short, clear, and descriptive, and should not contain abbreviations. Any acronyms used in the abstract should be written out in full the first time they appear. Citations and references should not be included in the abstract.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the MEDCOM 2027 Conference Abstract Book with an ISBN. Full papers may also be considered for the conference proceedings, special issues, and partner journals, subject to the relevant review processes.
A single registration allows only one person to attend the conference. Co-authors who wish to attend must register and pay separately. However, co-authors are eligible for a 15% discount on the non-presenter registration fee. Certificates will be issued to co-authors after registration and payment.
