A one-day workshop on investigative journalism aimed at strengthening investigative reporting skills among journalists, enhancing ethical standards, and deepening the culture of accountability journalism in Nigeria will take place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Auditorium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on March 5, 2026.

Organised by the Committee for the Ray Ekpu Prize for Investigative Journalism in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Council of the NUJ, the workshop will feature a keynote lecture to be delivered by Dayo Aiyetan, an investigative journalist, media development expert, and Executive Director of the Abuja-based International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR).

Mr Ibanga Isine, a journalist with many years of investigative reporting experience, will provide practical perspectives on carrying out such reporting over the years, focusing on story development, sourcing, and sustaining impactful investigations at the local level.

The workshop will provide participants with a platform to engage in interactive sessions, discussions, and practical exchanges, and also equip them with tools to uncover hidden truths and report with courage and responsibility.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Committee for the Ray Ekpu Prize for Investigative Journalism, Mr Nsikak Essien, described the workshop as part of ongoing efforts to promote excellence and integrity in journalism, noting that investigative reporting remains a critical pillar of democratic governance and public accountability.

The Ray Ekpu Prize for Investigative Journalism was jointly instituted by the Inoyo Toro Foundation and Thompson and Grace Investment Limited to encourage rigorous, fact-based reporting and to honour outstanding contributions to investigative journalism in Nigeria. It recognises excellence in investigative reporting and celebrates the legacy of veteran journalist Ray Ekpu, co-founder and former editor-in-chief of Newswatch magazine.
