The Kano State  Police Command on August 13, 2023, arrested six persons suspected to be among the people who protested against Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, at the re-commissioning of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital near the Emir’s palace in Kano.

Three of those arrested are: Abdulrazak Usman Sarki, Fatihu Muktar Faruk, and Usman Baba Attah.

The protesters chanted against the Emir of Kano, chanting “new governor, new Emir.” They urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to remove the current Emir and install a new one, citing the change in government as their reason.

The Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammad Usaini Gumel confirmed the protest saying the protesters invaded the venue of the event chanting provocative slogans that, according to him, sparked security uncertainty around the Emirate Council and particularly, the Emir of Kano and other invited dignitaries.

Mr. Sarki said when his command received the report he dispatched the Police Tactical Units of the command to identify and arrest the perpetrators including their sponsors, adding that the investigation was supported by the use of Technical Equipment that led to the arrest of the suspects.
