President Muhammadu Buhari on May 31, 2015 announced the appointment of Mr Femi Adesina and Mr Garba Shehu as his spokesmen. Adesina will serve as Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) while Shehu will serve as the Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity).

Mr. Adesina is the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sun newspapers.

Members of the NGE on April 25, 2015 re-elected Adesina as its President for another term of two years. He was returned unopposed at the 2015 biennial convention of the Guild, most of whose members described his tenure as the “best the Guild has ever had.”

With his appointment, Adesina becomes the second serving Guild president to be so appointed, the first being the late Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, who was the SA, Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Adesina began his journalistic career as a features writer at the Vanguard Newspapers before moving to the defunct National Concord Newspapers. He is a pioneer staff of Daily Sun newspaper where he rose to become the editor, and later the managing director and editor-in-chief, a position he is quitting for the new assignment.

Mallam Garba Shehu is a veteran journalist and former newspaper editor. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Organisation while he also practiced as a political communicator and analyst. He wrote a syndicated column for Premium Times every Wednesday.
