Publisher, 9 Others Arrested For Alleged Publication of Sedition

Peter Eke, the publisher of Biafra Times and nine others have been arrested  for the publication and circulation of alleged seditious and malicious materials.

Lagos State Police Commissioner , Mr. Fatai Owoseni  who said the suspects were arrested on  January 29, 2017,  disclosed that 515 copies of the offending newspaper were recovered during a raid on the printing press in Lagos.

The nine others who were arrested at No, 33 Oguntolu Street in Somolu are: Jamiu Eke, Azeez Ayoola, Akeem Adebakin, Bisi Akeem, Adewumi Temitope, Sakiru Folorunsho, Rafiu Qudus, Kunle Olusola, and Ayodeji Odunyinbo.

Owoseni also said that the printing press where the newspaper was printed has been shut while the premises is  being monitored.
However, the publisher, Peter Eke  told journalists that he had no intention to promote disunity and disharmony among Nigerians saying: “I love my country and I love my President. My intention is not to fight my country; I just want to pass out information to those who have no access to the Internet. I usually go on the Internet to source for information and publish. I have other papers on sports and social life which I publish.’’

He also disclosed that he has been publishing other titles for the past eight years and only began publishing the Biafra Times three months ago.
