The international news agency, Reuters, and Durham University in the United States are inviting applications from journalists all over the world for the Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship, which provides an opportunity for an exceptional early-career journalist with two to five years of professional journalism experience to participate in a nine-month fellowship to undertake an investigative project.

During the programme, the fellow will also be mentored by top Reuters editors in the field while being overseen by Durham University and having access to the University’s academics and research resources. It is designed to allow the applicant to develop rigorous, fact-based research and reporting skills.

The Fellow will carry out the project from a Reuters newsroom in London, New York, Sydney, or Toronto with additional support from colleagues in Durham’s Institute of Advanced Studies. The Fellow will deliver a public seminar at the IAS, sharing their learnings from the Fellowship and supporting the understanding of journalism at the University.

The selected fellow will be paid a monthly salary of c.£4,444 (equivalent to a pro-rata salary of c.£53,333 per year) in addition to a £1,250 monthly living stipend and a one-off payment of £1,800 for travel and related expenses.

Applicants must have between two-and five-years’ professional journalism experience. Where a prospective applicant is not currently a journalist but has worked in an investigative reporting capacity in a related professional field (for example, working as an author or researcher on authoritative investigative work; or developing in-field photo or video research projects, documentaries, or exhibitions), applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applications are welcome from all eligible candidates, regardless of their current location. Members of groups which are underrepresented in journalism are strongly encouraged to apply.

The city of placement will be at the discretion of the Fellowship Committee, and the successful candidate will need to meet applicable immigration requirements.

AI-generated proposals will be disqualified. Applications for the 2027 Fellowship will open on May 6, 2026, at 9 am BST.

Submission of applications closes on July 10, 2026, at 12 noon BST. Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.
