Suspected Yoruba Nation Self-Determination Agitators Hijack Radio Station

On May 28, 2023, at about 5.30 AM, persons suspected to be Yoruba nation self-determination agitators, armed with charms, amulets, guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, stormed the premises of Amuludun 99.1 FM radio station, owned by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN),  in Ibadan, Oyo State.

They entered the broadcast studio held staff on duty hostage, hijacked the live broadcast and started broadcasting. They declared in their broadcast that Oodua Nation has come to stay; that Yoruba is no more under the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and that the United Nations will soon declare Oodua Nation. The agitators were on air broadcasting for about one hour. Before the arrival of a joint team of police and soldiers.

Policemen from the Moniya Divisional Police headquarters and Moniya Area Command; Oyo Station Joint Security Patrol team codenamed, Operation Burst; and soldiers from 2 Division of Nigerian Army, Odoogbo, Ojoo, Ibadan, stormed the station and ended the siege laid by the hijackers. The security and law enforcement agents were able to arrest five of the suspects, who were taken to the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan, where they were paraded.
